Another successful finals day.Sunday 5th. October
The weather forecast was not good and indeed the
10a.m. start was just not possible due to heavy rain.As a result the
men's singles final was not played, will go ahead at a later date.
We did eventually get under way at 11a.m. with the
ladies singles match. Both competitors were new names to the
event. Both ladies played really well.A very enjoyable match with
Jackie Barnett taking the title and Marion Downes, runner up.
The men's doubles event produced some exciting
tennis going to 3 sets.Sandy Fulton and Steve White taking the title
against Russel Kemp and Nick Janakowski,
6-4,3-6,6-3 .
The ladies doubles was won yet again by the
champion partnership of several years,Angela Parkes and Lorraine
Walker. In straight sets they beat Lynda Moore and Chris Fulton.
The mixed doubles was a repeat of last year's
final,Dave Millns and Sarah Hill playing Sandy and Chris
Fulton. However Dave and Sarah managed to reverse last years result
winning in straight sets,7-5, 6-3
The last event was a very exciting match
between two very much improved juniors, neither of whom were going to
succumb to losing. The eventual winner of our Boys 16 & Under event
was Edward Riddell who beat Andrew Lowe 6-4, 6-4,

Sheffield & District Annual Presentation
Evening
16 members & friends attended the event
Friday 7th. November at the Omega Restaurant in Sheffield.
Lorraine Walker, the ladies team captain ,proudly
received the magnificent 2nd division ladies champions trophy, and a
loud roar went up from our table when our men's team were announced
as runners up in the 2nd.division.The club is celebrating the fact
that both teams in 2009 will be playing in the 1st. divisions.
The biggest surprise of the evening was when the
club was announced as " THE CLUB of the YEAR "
Chairman & secretary received the award.
The award was given for the progress made by the
club in the 16 years it has existed in its present form.
The inproved facillities, the envy of many
clubs, the progress of the teams, and the number of teams fielded to
represent the club,in Sheffield, Nottingham & Chesterfield Leagues
and the very active junior section catering for 95 juniors aged 5 to
17,were the criteria used in the decision to award Welbeck with this
honour.
